Kagoshima

Kagoshima is located at the southernmost part of Kyushu mainland. This extensive land of 600 km from the south to the north is a home of tourist attractions; rich with various islands and hot springs, including Yakushima Island, which has been designated as the World Natural Heritage site. Above all, Sakurajima is the symbol of Kagoshima.

Although the population of Kagoshima City is about 600,000 people, the city is only 4 kilometers away from an active volcano. Lava of the past eruptions has created an on-the-moon landscape while the hot springs scatter all over the area; which is even used as public baths. Amongst all that, Ibusuki is mostly known for its natural hot sand bath. The first-ever place in Japan declared as the National Park, Kirishima, is blessed with hot springs and Takachiho crest conveying the nation-founding myth. Together with its 23 volcanic groups, they portray their beautiful seasonal sceneries to the visitors.

Called as Satsuma of Little Kyoto, there is Chiran. At one side, Chiran unveils samurai residences comprising beautiful Japanese gardens. On the other side, Chiran conveys its sad war history through the kamikaze special attack corps museum, which receives many visitors throughout the year.
Dont miss the various brands of shochu(distilled spirit), which is getting more attention from around the country. Taste it with the black series of Kagoshima specialty products (such as black pig meat, black Japanese beef, black vinegar) for an enjoyable gourmet experience.
